ANTM Whitney Thompson May 18, 2008
Whitney Thompson is the first winner of “America’s Next Top Model” who’s considered a plus-size model. She’s certainly a gorgeous girl, but not hardly plus-size at a size 8. In any case, she seems to be determined to flaunt her body as is, and not succomb to any pressure to lose the weight for an assumingly more successful modeling career. She simply says if one modeling agency tells her to lose weight, she’ll move on to the next agency.
And with her newly won title, Whitney sees an opportunity to spread her message on body image.
“I have a 13-year-old cousin who’s so much like me it’s uncanny,” she says. “She’s completely normal-size but she says, ‘Oh, I’m so fat’,” and I’m like, ‘No, you’re not and why would you ever say that.’
“I have the purpose and drive and I’m trying to change the face of fashion and society,” she says. “It starts with a single step.”

Benefit Supervisor Sleeping May 16, 2008
Sigmund Freud’s nephew, 85 year old artist Lucian Freud, has set a new record for the highest selling painting for a still living artist.
His painting titled “Benefit Supervisor Sleeping” sold for over $33 million dollars at Christie’s in New York City. The model in the painting is now 51 year old Sue Tiley. She’s forever become a part of Freud’s large-scale, life-size painting series of portraits celebrated from the late 1980’s through the mid-1990’s.
Freud’s work hasn’t always been so widely recognized and appreciated. It’s taken a career of nearly 70 years to reach his fame status he maintains today.

Feederism? April 23, 2008
Thanks to the infinite online world of information, and let’s face it porn & fetish sites, Feederism has become a bit more exposed, and hence more “accepted.” Feederism, (against those beliefs who practice it, or continue to fantasize about it), IS a fetish IMHO. It’s supposed to be defined as the “consensual” weight-gaining process, in which the feeder helps to encourage packing on the pounds to the feedee, and this in turn results in their sexual excitement. Or there are those individuals who pack on the pounds on their own, and become increasingly excited with their increasing weight.
From my understanding, few actually practice this fetish. For most “feeders” it will forever remain a fantasy, and on their computer screens.
The idea of feederism disgusts me. I used to be more active in severalfattie forums, until I realized the amount of private messages asking if I’m a gainer or a feedee became beyond ridiculous. I understand people being curious, or being happy with themselves whilst gaining weight over the years…but feederism is much more than that. I find it to be disturbing, and those who practice it, or obsessively fantasize over it, have some psychological issues.
I don’t want to be looked at as a fetish, or a fly-by fantasy, or an object to be owned and manipulated to get someone “turned-on”…especially by someone who says they realized they were a feeder when they got turned on by watching Violet in Charlie in the Chocolate Factory balloon into a blueberry…I’m normally a very open-minded, to each their own, kind of person, but feeders are just as bad as those who discriminate against fat people.

Queen Latifah & Jenny Craig April 2, 2008
Kirstie Alley passed the torch to Valerie Bertinelli, and now the torch has been passed to Queen Latifah. In case you don’t watch too much TV, I’m talking about Queen Latifah signing on as the newest celebrity endorser for the Jenny Craig weightloss program. What I think is unique about Queen Latifah, is that she’s always been a bigger woman her entire career. The other spokeswomen, were long lost once skinny celebrities…
Of course, I don’t know the true motivation of Queen Latifah deciding to be the Jenny Craig spokesperson, but I do beleive what she says. I think she’s just trying to reinforce the acceptance of one’s body image, whilst not disregarding one’s health.
Now of course, I don’t beleive know there isn’t ANY absolute truth that skinny=healthy, and fat=unhealthy, but being proud of yourself regardless of your weight doesn’t mean you should put your health on the backburner. And I think this sums up Queen Latifah’s message.
If you’re fat (and HAPPY!) but eat consciencely, and exercise to keep your heart in good condition, so you can live your life to the fullest, just kindly smile at the Jenny Craig ads, and move on!
And I don’t think we’ll be seeing a skinny Queen Latifah…If I had her tone and beautifully proportioned curvy figure, I doubt I’d ever stop smiling!
How do you feel about the always proud curvy Diva starring in weightloss ads?
I’m baaaaaack! April 2, 2008

So Skinny… October 27, 2007
I’m a bit late on this, seeing that this came out about a year ago, but I still felt it was worth sharing….a music video celebrating the sexuality (it’s quite suggestive) of BBW’s.
So why is it called “She’s So Skinny” with a music video full of BBW’s? Well if you listen to the lyrics you realize a skinny woman is trying to seduce a man, but he turns her down b/c “she’s so skinny”
The Inspiration of Nancy Hayssen October 13, 2007
Sexy plus-size model Nancy Hayssen is responding to the recent anti-anorexic billboard and campaign from the No-Lita fashion company:

Nancy (seen below) is going to be the star of a campaign all about the beauty and acceptance of women of size.

What makes this campaign so unique, is Nancy is appearing nude and in similar positions of the anorexic model for No-Lita. Unfortunately, I’m unable to locate any of the photos from the shoot for the campaign, but if you DVR’d The Insider tonight, you’ll be lucky enough to sneak a peak!
IGIGI Clothing, and my Garment Review October 11, 2007
I was recently reached by the Marketing Director of IGIGI (http://www.igigi.com) , asking if I’d like to volunteer to write a garment review for them. I of course jumped at the chance! I mean what girl doesn’t enjoy trying on new clothes to “pretend model” in the mirror? And not to mention, my confession…I have never purchased anything from their online store, and this was the perfect chance for me to try them out!
Now mind you, I’ve always admired their clothing, and appreciated their fashion sense for the plus size woman. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, just because we carry around more weight, doesn’t mean we care less about how we look and are willing to accept a Mumu as a fashion statement for the plus sized gal!
So today the garment arrived. I chose the Vivianne Cowl Top, in red, as seen here. The description for the top on the site reads: “High fashion meets street-wise style! This top is so comfortable you could spend hours in it and so stylish you will want to dance in it.”
And let me be honest, I agree with above said statement. It’s a nice fashionable top, and beautifully comfortable. I could definitely wear this at the office all day, and feel just as comfortable as if I was wearing a cotton t-shirt.
Now I’m no model, which means I don’t have a perfectly proportioned, smooth, and curvy body. I have my share of flaws, and lumps, and rolls to boot! But this top seemed to be made for me. It flattered my GOOD curvy assets, and admittingly to my surprise, doesn’t cling too much! The stitching appears to be of top quality, for the garment to last the years to come.
The only thing that turned me off, was the fact that it must be HAND washed…but I suppose that’s a small price to pay for style, comfort, and long-lasting quality.
And yeah yeah…I took a pic of myself in it…I was against showing any pictures of me on this blog, so as to keep my anonymity, but I found a way around it
…and again, I’m no model!!
Another thing I’d like to mention, IGIGI offers a great feature on their site, that helps identify what body shape you are. This comes in handy b/c for each garment they have for sale, they tell you which body shape it flatters best. Also, they offer a size chart for EACH garment, b/c we all know there’s really no such thing as standard or consistent sizes. They obviously are striving to make us big gals even more beautiful!
And how cool is this? They provided me a coupon to offer on my blog for all my readers! ENJOY!!
